Muzaffar Ali to get Sadbhavana award












Muzaffar Ali, noted filmmaker and social activist, has been selected for the 22nd edition of Rajiv Gandhi National Sadbhavana Award for his outstanding contribution towards the promotion of communal harmony, peace and goodwill. 69-year-old sufi poet Ali has directed over number of movies including the classic “Umrao Jaan”. In 2005 he was awarded Padma Shri, Indias fourth highest civilian award.



Since 1992 the award is presented every year on 20th August, the birth anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi, to distinguished persons for their outstanding contribution towards promotion of communal harmony, national integration and peace. The award carries a citation and a cash award of Rs 5 lakh.



Previous recipients of the award include D.R.Mehta, SPIC MACAY, Wahiduddin Khan, Gautam Bhar, Mother Teresa, K.R. Narayanan, Ustad Bismillah Khan, Lata Mangeshkar, Sunil Dutt, Dilip Kumar, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and Maulana Wahiduddin Khan.
